Overview

Nanette Yannuzzi & Melissa Smedley

12'x30'x30'

Material: 15' Circulating Mop balanced on a washtub. Briefcase with Cement Blocks, 6 foot Bamboo 'Pen', a One Foot stack of hand made Mop Paper, Corncob Chair, ‘House of Cards’ constructed from over 90 3"x 3" ink drawings, Circulating fan, Sound, Salt, Raw Cotton, Baby Bottle Nipples, Water, Cotton Mops & Handmade Paper from cotton mop heads.

Conceptually based on a motherboard, (the brain of a computer) myself and California artist and writer Melissa Smedley assembled an installation of proportions, counterweight, and balance. All of the “circuitry” in this piece are in some way, balanced or counterbalanced. This, the third collaboration with Smedley, is a humorous and playful reflection on the common activities and challenges of m(other)hood and home.

"We are thinking about ‘circulation’ as a system….those things which circulate…blood, air, people on the planet. We are also thinking about the nature and importance of balance in relation to circulation. This shelf and the fan that circulated air into the Installation, slowly blowing the giant mop around was balanced by two bricks."
