The stories in this tribute to the women in my family begins with my great grandmothers, one who emigrated from Jalisco, Mexico, the other from Naples, Italy. It continues with their daughters, Ramona Pedroza and Lucia (Nazarro) Yannuzzi. Ramona’s daughter and my mother, Maria Margarita, is also included in this altar. My remembrances take the form of short stories pressed onto cotton sheets. All of them struggled as they moved their families into a better economic situation. They brought spirit, strength, and pain, with them on their journey.
